BROOKSIDE COMMUNITY CLUB EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING – 1/8/01

Attendees: Denis Menton, , Kathleen Salerno, Howard Helms,  Sandy Almassy, Sara Czarecki, Diane Tolley, Cindy Slate, and Jesse Smith.

The meeting was called to order by Denis Menton at 7:30PM.

Buildings & Grounds:  Jesse Smith’s Building & Grounds report is attached.  In addition to the improvements cited in the report, Jesse is working to put fire-detection heads in the attic (they are in the basement already).  Also, Jesse arranged to have the fire extinguishers checked.

We admired the newly refinished floor, whose coat of Urethane plus a finish coat highlights the grain.  The floor is more level than ever in recent decades, since a few of its boards were replaced.  The floor refinisher thought that the floor would sustain just one more resanding.

The upper interior walls of the Club looked sparkling in their new coat of paint.

Denis gave the Twp. Committee a request for $7,500 for a handicap-access ramp and new door for the south side of the Club.  With this improvement, the Club will host the Township’s elections, which will be moved from the Fire House.

Social and Fund-Raising:  Sara Czarecki briefly described tentative plans for the next issue of the Newsletter.

Denis said that Buzz Thomas had raised $700 to $800 by selling Xmas trees on our property.

The True Millennium Party was very successful.  Having it catered was judged to be better than cooking it ourselves.

In view of this success and of our lack of other events, it was suggested that we think of holding a party, e.g. to “Ring in Spring “ on April 21.  Cindy said that he Social and Fund-raising Committee will hold a meeting next week.

Chair Committee:  Diane Tolley reported her research on a replacement for our chairs.  Diane made calls and researched the Web and identified just three manufacturers of folding chairs.

During the discussion, we identified problems with the current chairs (i.e. too low and raked back) but also several advantages (i.e., light and easily stackable).  There was consensus that any candidate should be given a sit test before purchase.

It was not clear whether new storage racks would need to be purchased.

Diane also looked for round tables but found none that could be rolled away and folded up like our rectangular tables.

Diane turned this information over to Denis for consideration by himself and Lynda Menton.

Membership:  Sara reported that she is still working to obtain suitable stationary from its vendor (Hawk).  After this is settled, she will try to locate a different vendor for future work.

Since dues are payable on April 1, Sara will pull together a Newsletter.  Persons having material for the Newsletter are welcome to e-mail full writeups to her.

Website: The website continues to have about 1 hit per day.  Howard will send a paragraph advertising the website to Sara for the Newsletter.

Next Meeting:  It will be held at the Community Club on 7:30 PM on Monday, Feb. 12, 2001.

This meeting was adjourned at 8:29 PM (a record for brevity).

Respectfully Submitted,

Howard Helms
