Meeting of the Executive
Committee of the Community Club of Brookside – April 8, 2002
Attendees: Sandy Almassy, Cindy Slate, Jesse Smith, Sara Czarecki, Fran Plodkowski, Irene Daley, Lynda Menton, Joy Barrett, Buzz Thomas, Denis Menton, Gary Carbonello, Howard Helms.
Denis convened the meeting at approximately 7:30 PM.
President’s Report: Denis said that the Filiberto/Coombs Fill suit against us (among other defendants) was continuing, despite Denis having asked our insurance carrier at the time to respond. The Federal and State EPA are the originators of the suit, to recover $104 million they had to pay. (They want $50K from us, despite documentation showing that Filiberto collected only 2 bags of garbage per month from us.
John Mills has asked another attorney (Jeffry Coffee) to look at this. Jeffrey will give us a quote for his efforts. Denis and Gary will work to attempt to get the EPA to drop the suit against us.
Treasury: Denis said that the checking account is essentially unchanged at $15K. We received $1K from the Fire Dept. for the 4th of July celebration; Denis turned this over to the 4th of July Parade Committee.
Newsletter: Sara said that she was assembling a Newsletter and requested articles for it.
Social: Lynda said that a Community Club tee shirt will be sold at the 4th of July. Lynda will send Howard website advertising material.
The clambake will be held on Sept. 7.
2700 eggs were hidden on the field for the Easter egg hunt. No complaints were registered, since there was enough food and coffee.
4th of July Celebration: Linda Brusco will be parade chairman, and Lynda Menton will be the general chairman. We need helpers to serve breakfast and luncheon.
The morning games will be cancelled, since the equipment for them is so decrepit.
Buildings & Grounds: Our tenant (Mr. Woolsley) gave Jesse $800 in cash. Woolsley will replace the water heater. Jesses will inspect the installation after it is complete.
Jesse will ask Tracey to call a meeting of the rental committee to discuss rates.
The floors of the bathrooms, kitchen, and foyer will be redone. The vanities and toilets will be replaced.
Next Meeting: 7:30 PM on May 13, 2002, in the Community Club.
