Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Community Club of Brookside – September 9, 2002
Attendees: Gary Carbonello, Irene Daley, Sara Czarecki, Joy Barrett, Fran Plodkowski, Denis & Lynda Menton, Cindy Slate, Tracey Morrison, Diane Tolley, Roland George
Call to order: The meeting was convened by Denis Menton at 7:30 PM at the Community Club of Brookside.
President’s Report: Denis will resubmit our request to the Township Committee for $7500 for the 2003 to pay for a handicapped-persons access ramp so that the voting machines can be placed in the Community Club instead of the firehouse.
Denis talked with Assemblyman Rick Merkt’s Chief of Staff about clearing up the Coombs Fill lawsuit against the Club. (Denis has spent about 200 hours on this.) Rick wrote a supportive letter to Gov. McGrevey.
At Denis’ request, the Quakers agreed to leave an hour earlier (10 am) than previously, which will make it easier for the club to be cleaned and set up for afternoon functions.
Treasurer’s Report: Roland George gave the attached financial statement for June 8 and Sept. 10, 2002.
Our tenant is two months in arrears.
Membership: Sara reported that the newsletter resulted in receiving dues from 150 families. Sara and Howard will mail another postcard to those who have not paid their dues. For an Eagle Scout project, the Boy Scouts will be offered an opportunity to encourage townspeople to become members. The Boy Scouts will also be offered the opportunity to replace the railroad-tie steps next to Cherry Lane, gravel several muddy spots, and possibly put in a footbridge over a wash. (Howard can explain this project.)
Buildings & Grounds: Irene Daley will supervise the school parents when they decorate the Club, to protect the walls from stapling and other abuse. Tracey may also ask the school for a double-size security deposit ($400), since the parents have been so hard on the club.
4th of July Parade: Lynda said that the theme for 2003 will be “Holidays on Parade.” Diane suggested that we incentivize family floats by offering a free membership to each contestant and awarding a free rental to the winner. The money for doing this might be spent on one less band.
Denis said that the Freeholders will not be given an opportunity to tie up next year’s parade with speeches and awards.
Joy reported that we lost about $600 on the parade this year.
We need to start planning the next 4th of July parade in March, 2003.
Social: Although we had only 80 persons last year, we will hold another New Year’s eve party. Lynda will coordinate it.
Next meeting: It will be held on October 14, 2002 at the Community Club.
Respectfully submitted,
Howard Helms, Secretary
