Minutes of the General Meeting of the Community Club of Brookside—November 12, 2001
Attendees: Roland George, Sara Czarecki, Fran Plodkowski, Irene Daley, Jesse Smith, Cindy Slate, Betty Conable, Sandy Almassy, Howard Helms, Lynda & Denis Menton, Diane & Sam Tolley, Evan and Maribeth Thomas, Joy Barrett, Karen Carbonello, Robert O. Anderson (543-9601), Nancy R. White (895-3019), and Peter Staples (543-1379).
Call to Order: Denis Menton called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM. Howard Helms read the minutes, which were approved with the following changes: The tree-assembling party on Thursday, Dec. 6 will be held at 6:30 PM. The Holiday Boutique will be held on Nov. 17. The New Year’s Eve party is called the “True Millennium” party.
Treasurer’s Report: Roland George reported that our checking account contains $25,283.61 and our CD is for $25,000, for total assets of $50,283.61.
Amendments to the Bylaws: The attached two changes to the bylaws were approved unanimously.
Elections: The slate of nominees listed in the attachment was approved unanimously.
Litigation: Denis had written a letter to our U.S. and State legislators protesting litigation such as the Filiberto suit for the Coombs Fill garbage dump. Denis received a reply from Sen. Toricelli promising to look into this problem. State Representative Merkt is looking into whether legislation might be drafted exempting non-profits from responsibility for Superfund problems.
Rentals: Betty Conable promised to convene a meeting of the Rental Committee to review the rental rates and make a recommendation to be considered at the January meeting.
It appears that Betty Conable will step down, probably at the end of the year. No successor has been named as yet.
Social and Fundraising: The meeting voted that the True Millennium New Year’s Eve party should be priced at $75/person for members and $100/person for members’ guests. Non-members not invited by members will not be permitted to attend. Lynda Menton is negotiating with the caterer to obtain a final cost.
For the Holiday Boutique, Fran Plodkowski will set up the tables at this Friday night around 4 PM. Paula Benham is taking care of the food.
Building and Grounds: Jesse Smith said that he was waiting for the electrician to perform the final wiring of the fire alarm, so that the fire inspector can inspect our 100% completed system.
To prevent snowplows and cars from disturbing the new sprinkler system, Jesse will look into putting a barrier around the area served by the sprinklers.
To remove dirt accumulating in the kitchen, Sara Czarecki suggested that we hire a cleaning service every month or two. Jesse will obtain a price quote.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 7:27 PM.
Next Meeting: The next meeting of the Executive Committee will be held on January 14, 2002, at 7:30 PM in the Community Club.
Respectfully Submitted,
Howard Helms, Secretary
